Donald Metzler is a Research Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southern California (USC) and is a member of the Natural Language group at USC’s Information Sciences Institute. Prior to that he was a Research Scientist in the Search and Computational Advertising group at Yahoo! Research. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts in 2007. He is an active member of the information retrieval, Web search, and natural language processing research communities, having served on the program committees of SIGIR, WWW, WSDM, CIKM, ACL, EMNLP, KDD, and ICML. He has published over 40 research papers, has 1 patent granted, 15 patents pending, and is the author of A Feature-Centric View of Information Retrieval and co-author of Search Engines: Information Retrieval in Practice. His research interests include information retrieval, Web search, natural language processing, text mining, social media, and applications of machine learning to large-scale text problems.
